Life in Pictures

Day 2 of our trip was another wonderful day of sights and sounds. First we hiked up Mount Arbel for an incredible view of the upper and lower Galilee region, then visited the Israel/Lebanon border, followed by a trip to Caesarea Philippi (where Jesus asked Peter to confess who He says He is), then onto Capernaum (where Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law, where the Roman Centurian’s son was healed, and where He calmed the sea), to an incredible boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, and finally to see the ruins of a boat discovered in 1986 that dates back to the time of Jesus. What a day this has been! #Israel2019

Day 1 was a great revelation of historical sights and exploring for us! From Caesarea by the Sea (with remains of this great city, the construction commissioned by Herod, to standing where Paul was held in Acts 25), to Mt Carmel (ref 1 Kings 18 and the prophets of Baal and overlooking the Armageddon valley), to the ancient city of Meggido, to discovering a synogogue that Jesus most certainly would’ve taught at in Magdala (the birthplace of Mary Magdalene) - Day 1 was awesome!!

Wow! Standing where it is believed the prison cell that Paul was held in while in Caesarea (see Acts 25). (Absolutely incredible!) Also, behind us is a hippodrome where horse-drawn chariot races would’ve been held. More to come from this incredible first day!! #Israel2019

As we prepare to begin our journey, this encouragement from today’s devotional really stood out to me: “But we must fight to be moral. Morality does not happen by accident; moral virtue is acquired.” (Oswald Chambers) What must it have been like as a disciple to walk with the most morally superior individual in history, Jesus Christ? To study and know His perfection, and strive to live it my life, must be my goal today! (Ref John 3:30) #Israel2019

For 25+ years I have dreamed about seeing the land I’ve studied so much about, Israel. Today, alongside my favorite traveling partner Michelle, we are off to make that dream a reality! To be honest I am feeling like a toddler at Christmastime - and can’t wait to not only see the places I’ve read so much about, but to be able to study and perhaps do a few devotional teaching videos there. 1 Sam 12:24, “Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you.” Often times it’s tough to serve in the face of uncertainty, especially with an unclear path ahead. But, we are each called to serve because of what He has already done FOR us. May we be prepared and willing to serve today - even if it means we are called to serve in new and exciting ways. Lord, help us to obey and listen to your calling today and all days. Amen. #discipleshipchallenge
