One of the hardest truths for us to swallow is: God does NOT ask us to operate based on our feelings.
His command is for us to understand scripture and properly apply it. This means that we must be under biblical discipleship to be taught its application, which Ieads to us being able to correctly read it for ourselves, and THESE lead us to understanding how to apply what we’ve been taught.
The Pharisees (who Jesus was talking to) had long ago decided that they “knew best” what God wanted based on their traditions and their feelings, which led to this open rebuke in Matthew 22. The challenge for us is: Will we also be rebuked because we are reading scripture with our own selfish desires leading the way?
