Focusing on ONE task at a time is often one of the most difficult things that we may face today. In a world where we are graded by one another on how well we “multitask”, we have to stop and consider what Jesus tells a crowd of people who followed Him in John 6:26. He told them, “…you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs“; and for us in 2026 there can be no more biting comment than this one.
Do we want to be with Jesus because of what He can do for us, or because we are following His personhood (or His Christology) to understand all that He is capable of doing? Are we focused on the one thing that we are actually called to do, which is to receive and follow Him … or are we still hung up on what we can get from Him (like a genie in a lamp)? It is definitely worth considering, and something that each of us has to settle in our hearts.
