I have been asked several times about my thoughts during all these events, and although I’ve mostly stayed quiet, I felt that perhaps I should share a few words for us to consider. This is no way a be-all solution, but maybe it might be a beginning for some to consider in light of recent events.
What we are experiencing in this world, and have been experiencing since Genesis, Chapter 3 is summed up in one word: sin. Sin is a plague upon humanity based our own rebellion, and in our rebellion, we will continue to decline and choose our way over God’s way every time. Sin is a revolt against God’s commandments for how we should treat one another, and that is where we have to begin before we can fix anything.
For example: murder, destruction, rebellion, theft, brutality, anger, malice, etc. are not solutions – they are reactions to a situation that has happened (or is happening) around us; and it is those situations which drive us towards outrage and what some may view as good/bad responses. Our calling, as believers, is summed up best in one simple verse: Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Perhaps, just perhaps, if we (corporately as the church) start acting like the men and women God has called us to be – we can begin to heal this world, starting with our own hearts and minds and how we think about one another.
God bless you, stay safe. ~ Rev TJ
