The plot to kill Jesus (reference the above image of John 11:53) was simply about control for humanity. He was a threat to the ‘leaders’ way of life, their authority, and ultimately what they considered worship of God to be. For God, however, it was to bring glory to Himself and to the Son in that He would willingly lay down His life for the Creation.
The created beings that He called “very good” (see Genesis 1:31) were truly loved by God, but because of our sin the only way to be redeemed was for a sacrifice to be offered. The most perfect, holy, and anointed sacrifice was found in Jesus Christ the Son, and THAT is what we celebrate today!
